The taxonomy of emotional mirroring
The taxonomy of emotional mirroring
People usually have the capacity of emotional mirroring based on the
state of another person. I.e, to feel certain emotions based on a
perceived emotion of another person.
The identification of these emotions, or their general structure,
would be helpful in understanding the thymology (general psychology)
of humans, and to better predict their purposes and actions.
Luckily, given that, the structure of mirroring can be classified
a priori into generic classes based on the fulfillment of
happiness (or its negation), both of the mirrored and mirroring
actors.
Using this schema, we arrive at the following table:
| ϕ | ¬ϕ |
ω | Mudita | Envy |
¬ω | Schadenfreude | Sympathy
|
ϕ→ Mirroring actor happy
ω→ Mirrored actor happy
One important note is that an actor can be
indifferent to other
actors, and in this context this taxonomy is irrelevant.
